Poutines and Journey

Where has time gone, and yet so slowly…

Last weekend my BFFs (of 25 years) flew me out to visit for my b-day. They’re identical twins and one has a daughter (5) the other a son and daughter 18 mons and 6 weeks. Man flew out with me and we stayed with the one who has the two younger kids. Man helped her man out in the garage basically the whole weekend, and I attempted to make life a little less stressful for my friend… My god. Other people’s kids are always a little difficult over a long period of time, especially when you’re the cool aunt 😉 and when both can’t communicate with words it’s amplified! But we managed and had a great visit 🙂

Next weekend the kids are here so we have to get our butts in gear and start planning Easter excitement. MAN!

This will be the first time they fly out (and by themselves) so I’m a bit nervous, I hope it goes smoothly for them. I have my 12 week ultrasound while they’re here so they’re very excited. That will be paired with the blood donation (hardly an exaggeration) I gave today to check for deformities. I’m thinking it would be good if we could call them in after the initial discussion just to show them a peak. I would hate for them to be in there if it wasn’t good news. My boobs are still growing and sore and I’m tired as hell yet it’s still so hard to believe I’m pregnant and that everything is okay. I basically just feel like a bloated regular me and I look that way too. We’ve started walking again. I know this sounds so lame. We were getting in the habit of just coming home, making and eating dinner, then sitting on our butts melting into the couch. We used to walk every night after dinner, so I’m excited we are getting back into this. Next step, the gym!! Woah, okay one thing at a time here…

I still haven’t gotten sick, I don’t have HUGE cravings and nothing else has really changed from the bottom of my last post. Sometimes I’ll walk passed something and want it. I really do love pickles when the moods right. Other times nothing is appealing. Let’s just say soup and grilled cheese is an embarrassing staple in our home.

Today I’ve had a killer headache and Man left for a hockey game during dinner time so this was my cue to order take-out. I made a salad to make it healthy of course, and called up our neighbourhood pub for a poutine. Now if you’re not familiar with this fine Canadian delicacy, I suggest you become acquainted. You like fries/chips, gravy, and cheese? Well there you go, all on one plate, a classic poutine. There’s many a variety now and some places make them fancy like those new adult mac and cheese dishes. I belted out “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey on my way home, which actually distracted from my headache. My right hand only released it’s protective brace on my to-go box when the timing was right for a power-note air grab. I savored every bite. It was amazing. I’m still wiping up some gravy from the plate with my finger. P.S. Man, the music may still be up very loud on the stereo when you go to start the car tomorrow…

We’ve decided on a 3 row vehicle but also that we will re-asses in Fall if we are able to purchase it. Yep, right before baby. We also made the first active step in getting a contractor in for the basement. There was one we knew we wanted but we debated just calling in all the trade professionals ourselves in an attempt to save money. Man told me he just doesn’t want to worry about that process and to go with the contractor we decided we liked. That’s very exciting! This will make a bedroom, bathroom, and an extra chill space (with a pullout sofa) so all the kids have a bedroom and enough space even if my mom is here at the same time.

I was going to go to the Baby & Tot show this weekend but I said eff-it. Man saved me the trip by humoring me and taking me to this HUGE baby store on Friday. I was able to test drive the last stroller I was interested in and afraid to fall in love with… but I did, and so did Man muahaha. It’s a lot though. Everything else will likely be Ikea or used because of this one purchase I have my eyes on. I was also able to experience the frustration of choosing the perfect diaper bag before truly necessary.

Here’s my progress. Template stolen from WTF Lining. Check her out!

How far along: 2 days away from 11 weeks, are we there yet?

Baby’s size: Prune with knees

Total weight gain: 5 lbs ish. Mostly my heavy-ass boobs. But also my heavy-ass ass lol

Maternity clothes: Not yet! but debating a nursing bra in a size too big. I bought compression socks for the flight last weekend and for the odd day my legs are sore. Tried on a pair of pants before work that couldn’t do-up last week, still managing with larger sized regular clothes though. That friend we stayed with gave me some basic maternity tanks, yay!

Stretch marks: No, not preventing much yet other than lotion after showers.

Sleep: Good, except for waking up to pee 15 minutes before my alarm, or twice the mornings I get to “sleep-in” till 7am.

Symptoms/Feeling: Tired, a sense of needing to get in shape / physically active, heavy sore boobs, no motivation.

Best moment of last week: Man agreeing to come to the big baby store and looking at all the little things we may need. It was overwhelming and amazing all at once.

Miss anything: Not really. I order virgin fruit drinks if we go out, I still sometimes wake up and am on my stomach, Bailey’s in my coffee maybe, definitely miss feeling comfortable in pants. But then, when have I ever…

Movement: Not from baby…

Food cravings: Poutines… basically salt and carbs. Fruity stuff too.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not much no.

Have you started to show yet: bloated-looking low bump.

Gender: Won’t know for a little while yet!

Labor signs: Um, nope.

Belly button in or out: In

Wedding rings on or off: On but my fingers tend to swell already :/

Happy or moody most of the time: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Looking forward to: Seeing the next ultrasound (2 Wednesdays from now)

Purchases for babies:  Nothing beyond the good luck slippers I bought in Dec before we started our IVF process and the receiving blankets in early Feb for the big news drop to Man.

  1. Canadian salad!! I love it! Hard to find the real deal around here but I’ve had it and it’s great! I fell in love with the uppababy too but decided on the Baby Jogger as it got better reviews for twins and is half the price! But splurge if you can! Why not?!?

    • Oh man, a disappointing poutine is worse than no poutine! The city select is all over our city! I looked at it too when we put the two embryos back because of that reason! Because we’ll only have one, the seat set up isn’t as important for us. Congrats again!

  2. Mmmmmm nom nom squeaky cheese nom nom. LOVE poutine! Glad things seem to be going smoothly. I agree it is a good idea to keep the kiddies outside until you check everything is a-ok. So nice to be able to have them along for the scan. I think I moved into maternity bras from about 12 weeks. My knockers were so hooter like by then I needed them for comfort. Oh and get yourself some elastic waist maternity pants if yours are uncomfortable already. You won’t look back. Soooooooo good. Look after yourself and enjoy the treats. x

  3. Ha! So funny to read this! I’m so happy for you guys and glad you don’t have as nutty an ex to deal with 🙂

I’m 30 weeks today, 3lbs, 15.4 inches, cabbage like and just wait for it. I’m 5’1″ and I am pretty sure I am as close to Oompa Loompa status as possible. It’s so crazy amazing though to feel the baby move all the time!! I haven’t had any cravings either and I never got sick. I did hate all the genetic testing, we work so hard to get pregnant and then you spend half the time on edge about tests and ultrasounds!!! It all worked out well for us Thank God and I’ll be thinking of you guys!
We are getting the same stroller! I know a lot of people who have it and they love it. Don’t forget the bassinet holder :-). The Maxi Cosi car seat is awesome and you can get adapters so it works with the stroller.
I hope you have a great week and so happy for you!!!

    • Hahahaha awe I’m sure you feel more oompa than you look 🙂
You’re almost there! So exciting! I like hearing about other people’s journeys and experiences. Oh yes, the bassinet holder! Are you going to use it beside the bed? That’s what I think we’ll do instead of getting a freestanding one.
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts 🙂

  4. Mmmm… now I’m craving poutine.. though, I’m not pregnant! lol
    I enjoy following your journey
